Activity 7. Cloud Computing

I love Google docs!  I used them last year but I know my team and I should use them more.  I created a spreadsheet for us to use for keep track of how kids are doing on their reading skills.  We all do a lot of record keeping but this would help us all keep it in the same place.  I have the target skills for Theme 1 of Houghton Mifflin done so far.  I used the tabs at the bottom to make 3 main areas (comprehension, language and phonics).  Each skill has 3 areas to check it off, to ensure that we are going back and checking the skills throughout the year.
It will be very easy to do the rest of the Themes when we are ready for them because I can just copy what we already have and change the headings.
By using a Google doc we can all input our data, check on kids that may go to a different reading teacher and have it all at our fingertips for conferences.  I also like that it is easy to do at any computer you are using.  You can do it at home and more than one person can work at a time.  I love staying organized!!
I thinking about cons to using a shared document.....the risk is always present that someone tries to "do something" to the doc and they lose data.  Luckily with Google docs it automatically saves things so I don't see that happening.  The formatting could change but then we all need to be flexible.  It does make me wonder what happens if we would lose the date.  Can you retrieve an earlier copy of a document??
Hoping that this is helpful in the coming year!

  1. I can see how this would be really helpful to use. You can easily see who has been assessed and who is not making it. This would be really helpful when moving students around with the flexible groupings. I have wondered about some of your questions. I always seem to want to back up items, and end up with multiple items.

  2. I am glad you are already familiar with this tool! It is good to be exposed to some of these tools several times, so you can learn even more about them. Or even learn to use them in different ways!

  3. I love your data collecting form! I also need to use Google docs more this year.
